Firefighter
Job Description
The job description of a firefighter at Ceredo Fire Department covers several different areas. At Ceredo any person, with an interest in either firefighting, EMS or both, eighteen years in age or older, a resident of Ceredo, WV, unless otherwise approved by the membership, of sober and good moral character, and in good physical health, is eligible for membership. Once voted on by a two-thirds vote by members present as a probationary member during a normal business meeting held the first Sunday of the month a new member will be issued turnout gear and a pager and may participate in all department functions. A member is required to take and pass as soon as possible WV Firefighter Level 1 training. The department will then cover the charges of any other classes the member wishes to take which can range from Auto-Extrication, classes in hazardous materials, water rescue classes, additional firefighting classes, etc. At Ceredo we encourage members to attend as many fire schools as they can to increase their knowledge in new tactics and skills. After a six month time period a probationary member will again be voted on by the members present at a monthly business meeting, and if the probationary member recieves at least a two-thirds vote the member shall be made a full member and issued a key and be allowed to vote in department meetings.
