EMT-Basic

The Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT-B) level of certification is held by those individuals who successfully complete the USDOT EMT-B course and have been certified by the WV Office of EMS.

EMT-B's who serve with the Ceredo Volunteer Fire Department are designated to perform the following tasks:

• -    Maintaining Open Airways
• -    Keeping hearts and lungs working artificially
• -    Controlling bleeding
• -    Basic treatment of shock
• -    Care of victims of poisoning
• -    Dressing and bandaging of wounds
• -    Splinting of injured extremities
• -    Delivery and care of infants
• -    Safe vehicle operation (if properly checked off)
• -    Record keeping
• -    Other duties as assigned and allowed by laws and regulations

In addition to these tasks, EMT-B's are required to complete daily duties, assist paramedics with ALS level care and supervise CPR Drivers where appropriate.

The EMT-Basic reports to the EMS Director and works either a scheduled shift or responds to second calls as appropriate.
